Director Manufacturing Site (f/m/d)

Location: Belgium, Antwerp

The main purpose of this role is to

  • ensure all operations within line responsibility at the Antwerp site are performed in compliance with laws & internal regulations while implementing the CS Product Supply Strategy to enable safe and reliable manufacturing of Active Ingredients, Intermediates and Finished Products
    • manage active ingredient (AIM) and formulation, filling and packaging (FFP) units to produce Glyphosate and third-party products. Manages outsourced services, the third-party contracts and their fulfillment, as well as relations with local community / key stakeholders
    • ensure that an appropriate organizational set-up is in place, expertise at the site is available and access to respective functional experts is maintained

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Delivery of products with high quality at planned volumes to lowest costs within all QHSE requirements ("customer focused“)
• Responsible for all production activities at the Antwerp site including e.g., Management of the service departments: technology/engineering, A.I. Production, formulation plant, site logistics, QHSE, process improvement, operational excellence, controlling, SAP & IT site service, transport safety
• Manages site costs, to realize synergies and sustains competitiveness of site operations and infrastructure services
• Resource responsibility for site infrastructure/services in terms of coordination and HSE compliance, emergency preparedness, response, crisis management, site development, long- and short-range plans and business continuity management
• Support organization vision throughout strategy deployment into OnePss and scorecards, including inclusion, diversity, equity and access (IDEA)
• Responsible for the continued development of sustainability and digitalization at a site level
• Monitor and observe the market to ensure achievement of best practices and procedures in manufacturing (economic environment, develop people, processes and procedures)
• Execute capital investment projects / de-investment
• Act as legal representative for Bayer agriculture BV and represent the Antwerp site, promoting strong relations with governmental/legal agencies & authorities, community, customers, and employees.
• Lead the collective labor agreement (CLA) negotiations and manages relationship with union/employee representatives in the workers council, HSE committee, and syndical meetings on the topics of business performance, organizational set-up, legal compliance, safety & health, sustainability, labor conditions, compensation & benefits in accordance with corporate policies

WHO YOU ARE
• University degree as Chemist or Chemical (process) Engineer, preferably with extensive production and supply chain experience and/or a track record of managing a complex manufacturing process environment
• Strong leadership/motivation/coaching skills and experience as manager in leading large groups / departments

Project Engineer Area Lead (f/m/d)

The purpose of this position is to provide oversight, coordination, and leadership on capital investment projects, strategic initiatives, and other technical matters that fall within the engineering function at the Luling site. This position manages the prioritization, the complete approval process including supplements, the design process (FEL0 to Completion, the management of execution until start up including all construction, procurement, controls activities, and external contracting for investment projects, new construction designs, and modifications to the existing plant and facilities. The incumbent plays a key role in ensuring compliance with the laws, rules, and regulations that impact the design and construction of chemical process facilities.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Project Engineering Design and Construction Lead, are to:

  • Manage the Project Engineering and Construction department of the Luling Site: provides leadership to the members of the department, recruits, develops, and retains competent Project Engineers, Project Technicians, and drafting personnel for executing the work of the site.
  • Recruit and train less tenured chemical, mechanical, and electrical engineers prior to their move into plant technical positions.
  • Optimize people performance and development through mentoring, coaching, and training employees.
  • Create and execute career development and progression plans for employees.
  • Engage outside consultants and contractors, when needed, to support the team.
  • Ensure Capital Budget is prepared and managed including long range planning (LRP) including economic evaluations, funding requests, capital and expense forecasts, asset write offs, and ensure necessary financial reporting and accounting is performed.
  • Responsible in cooperation with the Site Technical Manager for prioritization, estimating, planning/scheduling, resource planning, cost controlling & reporting, documentation of all capital projects executed on the Luling site as well as in Conroe.
  • Provide guidance in all aspects of the planning and execution of investment and turn around projects for the Site; staffs investment and turn around projects and manages respective internal and external resources; acts as an advisor and focal point of contact in all relevant project engineering matters of the Site. Supervises and lead Project managers and engineers, designers, drafters, and engineers who execute and support investment projects.
  • Propose and conduct programs, initiatives, and tools for continuous effectiveness and efficiency improvements under the guidance of the Site Technical Manager.
  • Further ensures organizational effectiveness through timely and effective communication and collaborative action under the guidance of the Site Technical manager.
  • Ensure management of design software programs, engineering project data base, engineering document library and technical archives. Manage the technical documentation of the plants at the Site such as P&IDs, 3D models, layouts, etc. with own or external resources and manage implementation of the technical processes and standards.
  • Ensure that proposed designs meet Bayer internal engineering key tasks: standards, industry standards, and comply with generally accepted engineering practices.
  • Monitor and manage projects with respect to schedule, costs, safety, quality, and productivity (overall, individual jobs and organization).
  • Work with Bayer technical purchasing, vendor representatives and internal stakeholders to develop contract documents, proposals for bid, and other technical documents.
  • Network effectively with peers and others to identify, share, and implement best practices. Exercise influence both within and across traditional boundaries to deliver outstanding business results for their team, plant and the broader organization under guidance, or with support of the Site Technical Manager.

WHO YOU ARE

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering or another appropriate scientific discipline or comparable advanced education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing a team of salaried professionals with at least 5 years prior experience as a Project Manager, Technology; Manager (Completions/Commissioning) or Project Engineer for Capital Projects within Chemical Industry preferred Capital Budget Management experience;
  • PMP Certification;
  • SAP, EFD (P&ID) training, Project Management (PMBOK), equipment files, budget management;
  • Knowledge in Bayer technical practices and standards;
  • A proven track record of working in Project Management roles within manufacturing.
