  • Feasibility studies and involvement in the procurement of new manufacturing technologies, as well as the supplier selection of optical components
  • Participation in CIP (continuous improvement process) with a focus on cost reduction, productivity increase and ergonomics

  • Hands-on product design, development, and verification tasks related to hardware, software, and microplate consumable interoperability, with the goal of achieving overall product and process performance requirements for our cell health products.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, science and manufacturing team

Your Education and/or Background Experience will include:

  • 3 to 5 years Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering experience
  • Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical troubleshooting, theory and application
  • Strong deductive reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of CAD/CAE tools (Solidworks preferred)
  • M.S./B.S. with 2+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar Engineering field.
  • Excellent CAD skills
  • (Electrical) Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline with relevant experience
  • (Electrical) Knowledge and practical experience with hardware-oriented software development (C and preferably also VHDL) and circuit design
  • (Manufacturing) Completed vocational technical training with subsequent further training possibly as a technician or comparatively
  • (Industrial) University degree in mechanical engineering, automation technology or another technical discipline / precision optician with additional training as a technician, master craftsman specializing in precision optics or technical business economist

Optical Sensor Engineer (f/m/x)

Berlin, Germany

The Optical Engineer will support the design and development of light-emitting and sensing devices for spectrometers used in analytical instrumentation. In this role, you will design electronic circuitry to interface to the emitting and sensing devices, design lens geometries, and other optical components (filters, gradience and etc.) such that they can be tested to verify performance in accordance with the product requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and analyze optical components and subsystems to reliably achieve functional requirements.
  • Develop and implement optical and photometric measurements to support product development and manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with engineers and chemists across research and manufacturing teams to develop testing methods and transfer the technology to manufacturing.
  • Design optical tests to verify performance.
  • Develop test plans and perform testing of components and subsystems.
  • Document and present designs and test results.
  • Specify optical components for fabrication.
  • Assemble optomechanical and optoelectrical sub-assemblies.
  • Participated on project teams as a Core-Team member for Optics
  • Participated globally in design reviews
  • Identifying opportunities and contributing to the development of innovative approaches in detection technology

Education, Background and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree with at least 2 years experience in optical engineering
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used circuits, analysis and measurement tools
  • Has knowledge of Materials and component selection for optical paths
  • Has knowledge of Mechanical design using CAD (Solidworks preferred)
  • Detailed knowledge of ISO quality systems (specifically Design Controls/Product Realization) and related requirements.
  • Demonstrated skill in the areas required to perform this job for a technologist:
    • Hands on skills for assembly and testing of designs
    • Circuit modeling and analysis
    • Testing optical performance and interferences
    • Rapid prototyping of Mechanical and Electrical HW
    • Ability to communicate and work cross-functional
