Antwerp Area

The Antwerp Refinery, which is integrated with the Performance Intermediates Plant, is situated in the port area. With ongoing large and small investments, ExxonMobil ensures that the installations on the refinery site remain modern and efficient, and that the refinery retains its competitiveness.

The Antwerp Performance Intermediates Plant is one of the largest and most modern plants in Europe that produces liquid hydrocarbons. The plant has been completely integrated with the refinery as part of an initiative to maximize efficiency.

The Meerhout Polymers Plant is one of the largest LDPE manufacturers in Europe and it supplies products to numerous industries. The plant is organizationally twinned with the Zwijndrecht Polymers Plant, which produces special types of polyethylene in relatively small volumes.

The office building in Brussels (Machelen) houses ExxonMobil's regional headquarters for Europe, Africa and the Middle East (EMEA) and the European Technology Centre for research and development.

What role you will play in our team 

We are offering a position as a Project Engineer in our Project Organization at our Antwerp Manufacturing Complex. Our project organization delivers capital projects to our Antwerp Refinery and Chemicals plants, all the way from early design to final field construction. Our projects play an important role in enabling a safe, reliable, and competitive operation of our facilities and are vital in the exciting challenge of the energy transition.

  • Be responsible for the cost, schedule and quality performance of multiple projects in the range of €1 Million up to €50 Million

Rotterdam Area

The head office of the Benelux organisation is situated in Breda. The production plants are located in the Rotterdam port area.

  • The Rotterdam refinery is one of the most modern and environmentally friendly of its kind. Since being put into operation in 1960, the plant has undergone several renovations. The sizeable capital investments through the years have made the refinery ultra-efficient.
  • Officially called the Rotterdam Plasticizers & Intermediates Plant, the Rotterdam Oxo-alcohols Plant actually comprises three production facilities: the Rotterdam Oxo-Alcohol Plant in Europoort, the Phthalic Anhydride Plant and the Rotterdam Plasticizer Plant, which are both located in Rotterdam Botlek. It is the largest producer of plasticizers in Europe.
  • The Pernis Lubricant Plant - or Lube Oil Blending Plant - produces various types of engine oil for cars and lubricants for industrial applications.

What role you will play in our team

In the Rotterdam Area we are offering job opportunities for Process & Offsite Engineers. In this role you ensure the operation of a manufacturing unit and work in close collaboration with our operators, maintenance and engineering specialists. You strive for optimal efficiency, cost effectiveness and operational safety.

What role you will play in our team

We are currently seeking an experienced Instrument Engineer to join our team at the UK’s largest integrated refinery and petrochemicals plant. We are looking for highly capable engineers to bring fresh perspectives, whilst working within our operational frameworks.

Our Instrument Engineers are responsible for providing specialist engineering, technical and safety orientated support to the Process and Maintenance Teams for equipment ranging from field instrumentation to complex protective systems.

The role is based at our Fawley site, Fawley, Hampshire.
What you will do

  • Providing technical support to the Operations Team in the resolution of key equipment integrity and operational issues.
  • Planning overhaul and upgrades, attending repair facilities for interface and witness activities, as appropriate.
  • Maintaining the lifecycle technical integrity of the installations by ensuring appropriate maintenance and equipment strategies, engineering standards, procedures and guidance documents are adhered to across all activities.
  • Assisting maintenance with troubleshooting and conducting spares reviews, where required.
  • Providing technical support to loss investigations, root cause investigations and actioning appropriate follow up activities.
  • Assessing performance and condition monitoring results, ensuring appropriate follow up with other discipline interfaces as necessary.
  • Acting as the key focal point for discipline modifications and ensuring all temporary or permanent modifications are technically assessed, meet appropriate standards and correctly endorsed.
  • Reviewing and approving engineering and design documentation, technical reports and management system documentation.
  • Supporting project development from initial concept through engineering, commissioning, startup and all phases of asset operational life.
  • Supporting engineering, deployment and sustainment of Wireless Equipment Monitoring networks (collaborating with IT specialists and external vendors/ specialists in developing IT/OT engineering solutions).

About you

  • Hold an engineering degree, or equivalent qualification.
  • Have relevant instrument engineering experience in an operational environment, preferably at a COMAH facility in the refining or petrochemical sector.

Be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • Key legislation and regulatory framework applicable to UK
  • Industry engineering practices, codes and standards and their application to development and management of lifecycle asset integrity assurance programs
  • Other discipline functions e.g., Operations, Inspection, Engineering and Process
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment techniques and management of change processes and tools
  • Major accident hazards, performance standards, assurance and verification activities are desirable.
  • Have experience in computer networks and different communication protocols is desirable.

Preferred Qualification / Skills

  • Sizing and selection of control valves and field instrumentation such as flow, pressure, temperature and level equipment
  • Technical drawings such as loop drawings, P&IDs, logic diagrams, technical manuals & Cause & Effect diagrams
  • Maintenance requirements for instrumentation to ensure long term reliability
  • ATEX for hazardous areas
  • Protective systems, including IEC 61511, HIMA and Triconex equipment
  • Fire & Gas detection systems
  • PLCs and their application in the process control sector
  • Machinery monitoring equipment and its application, experience with Bently Nevada systems is desirable
  • Machinery Control systems such as GE Mk V is desirable

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry with typical focus areas on catalysis or process design.
  • Experience with process modelling simulation software (PRO/II or Aspen)
  • Good understanding of physical and chemical analytical techniques
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams (Technical, Operations, and Technology), to acquire knowledge on manufacturing processes, pilot plant operations and product and application requirements to guide development efforts
